Kabul Attack: Terrorist attack
Kabul Attack: Terrorist attack on Kabul's gurdwara, death of 25, eight people injured
On Wednesday, a heavily-armed suicide bomber opened fire at a gurdwara in the Afghan capital, Kabul. At least 25 people died in this attack, while eight people are injured. The Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the attack. The Afghan special forces killed the attacker.
Significantly, the Sikh community is a minority here. The Interior Ministry said in a tweet on an attack by a gunman, unfortunately 25 civilians were killed and eight others were injured in the attack. Security forces rescued 80 people trapped inside the gurdwara. Earlier, Afghan media reported that the attack, which lasted for about six hours, was carried out by four militants.
The ministry said in a statement that 80 people, including women and children, have been rescued from the gurdwara. The ISIS terrorist group issued a statement confirming that its members carried out the attack on Sikhs in the city of Kabul.
At the same time, the main militant group of Afghanistan, the Taliban, denied their involvement in the attack on the gurdwara. Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said in a statement that the terrorist group had no connection with the attack in the Shor Bazar area of Kabul.
Earlier this month, an Islamic State-related organization attacked a religious gathering of minority Shia Muslims in Kabul, killing 32 people. Sikhs face widespread discrimination in this conservative Muslim-majority country.
Foreign Ministry expressed grief over the attack
India's Foreign Ministry has expressed grief over the Kabul attack. The ministry said that we express our condolences to the family members of the deceased and wish the injured to recover soon. India is ready to extend all possible help to the affected families of the Hindu and Sikh community of Afghanistan.
The ministry said that such a cowardly attack on minority religious places of worship, especially in this time of the Corona virus epidemic, is a reflection of the satanic mentality of criminals and their supporters.
